Are you looking for ways to learn more about all of the new and improved Google suite of tools? Don’t have time to take a face-to-face college course? Then join us this Summer Semester for an online, self-paced course designed to assist you in integrating Google tools into classroom instruction. In recent years there have been many updates to Google Tools, providing even more ways to integrate technology into teachers’ and students’ workflow. This course will build on the basics of each tool and highlight the new features found within each. This course will build from the ground up, so whether you are a new user to Google or a seasoned veteran, this class will cater to your needs.

Professional Development

Technology is ever changing and in order for teachers to truly embrace its effectiveness, they must know what technology is available, how to use it and how they might be able to use it as a teaching and/or learning tool. In order for this to happen, teachers need effective professional development opportunities. This can only happen if the following needs are met:

  • Time: teachers need an extended time period to explore and learn technology.
  • Hands-on learning: teachers need to have the opportunity to explore technology, create products and experiment prior to implementing a tool into their curriculum.
  • Sustained training: follow up, reflection and collaboration are key components to technology professional development. Teachers need an opportunity for guided instruction, exploratory time, implementation and follow up with either other colleagues, an integration specialist or both.

Course Outline

This is a self-paced course with ten + modules you can proceed through at your own pace. The modules are all in place at the start of the class. You are welcome to complete each module at anytime during the course.

Each module will consist of reading materials, videos, additional support materials and a series of activities to build your skill set and provide you with an opportunity to apply the newly acquired skill to your own personal classroom setting. Building a skill set first and then applying that skill set to an authentic environment is shown to create a better understanding of how a tool can be used more effectively on a personal level by teachers and students.

I will conduct a Google Hangout as needed to cover any questions and or problems that arise throughout the course. Additional support will be provided to individuals within the class via a discussion board, emails, a hangout, or even a phone call if necessary.

Course Cost: $129

Credit Fee: $150 (MSU-N, paperwork will be emailed after registration)

OPI Certification Credit: 45 (no cost)

Registration is now open. Course officially begins on May 25th, however you may register at anytime through June 30th, with paperwork due to me no later than July 10th. The course ends August 6th, 2017 at which point all assignments need to be completed.
